Superstitions are all around us. They sometimes guide
our lives. Here, in Spain, one of the most believed superstitions is the one
that says that breaking a mirror can bring you seven years of bad luck.
There are arguments for and against this general beliefs.
Some people think that they are true while others believe they are lies. On the
one hand, sometimes superstitions fulfill and that’s why society trusts in them.
This faith probably started when, for example, a person after breaking a mirror,
had bad luck for some time.
On the other hand, we can’t pretend that they decide
how we have to behave. There are people, especially the elderly, who try to
avoid some objects or animals which have unlucky connotations. For example,
when there’s a ladder against a wall, they don’t walk under it.
It seems to me that some of the superstitions we know
are true, but we must learn to live without them in our minds.
There are lots of superstitions but anybody can affirm that one of them is true because it's not a science, it's only a speculation of skeptical people. You can be skeptical or you can live your life the way you prefer.
